Walking

Boots on at the front door

One of England's great trails runs right past the entrance

You don't drive to the walking here — you step into it. The Trans Pennine Trail passes the entrance to the park, the Sefton coast's dunes and pinewoods stretch for miles, and the boot room is waiting for muddy boots (and muddy paws) when you get back.

Trans Pennine Trail

Coast to coast, starting here

The Trans Pennine Trail runs from Southport all the way to Hornsea on the east coast — and its western miles pass the park entrance. Walk a stretch to Ainsdale beach or make a day of it.

The Sefton Coast

Dunes, beaches & pinewoods

Ainsdale Sands and its National Nature Reserve are on the doorstep — rare natterjack toads, endless beach, and the Sefton Coastal Footpath threading it all together. Down the coast, Formby's pinewoods hide England's famous red squirrels.
