Stage 2 of the Grand Départ races through 80 miles of Lancashire to a seafront finish in Liverpool. Watch it, ride it, and make a whole weekend of it from Warren House.
Le Tour, up north
Warren House sits between the two best ways to see Stage 2: the free Lancashire roadside to the north-east, and the grandstand finish on Liverpool's Strand to the south. The Grand Départ brings the world's greatest bike race to Britain for three days in July 2027, and the Saturday belongs to the north-west. Fill the house with your cycling club, your family or both: sleeps up to fourteen, with Route 62 past the gate and a hot tub for the recovery protocol.
The lie of the land
The route sweeps down from the Lakes, over the Lancashire fells and into Liverpool. Warren House sits on the coast between the climbs and the finish line.
Race day, two ways
The big-occasion choice: barriers, big screens and the sprint for the line on The Strand, with the city in carnival mood. Merseyrail runs directly from Ainsdale into Liverpool Central; the walk to the waterfront is short.
Go early, make a day of it, and let the train handle the closed roads home.
The connoisseur's choice, and it is free: pick a spot on a categorised climb and feel the race go past close enough to touch. Chorley's climbs are about 45 minutes' drive; the Côte de Jubilee Tower above Lancaster is about an hour.
Arrive well before the road closures, picnic like the French do, and catch the caravan before the riders.
Not everyone wants six hours on a verge. The big screen at the house shows every mile, the kitchen keeps the musettes filled, and the garden is right there for half-time laps of the lawn.
Mixed group? Split up for the day and swap stories in the hot tub after.
Make a weekend of it
Three stages, three days, one house. Here is the shape of it.
Check in, bikes into the gated store, kettle on. Spin the legs with an easy hour on National Cycle Route 62, which passes the Warren House entrance, or roll over the dunes to Ainsdale beach.
Evening: Stage 1 highlights (Edinburgh to Carlisle) on the big screen in the bar, tactics talk optional but inevitable.
The main event. Train to Liverpool for the finish on The Strand, or drive out to the Lancashire climbs with a picnic; the house sits neatly between the two.
Home by early evening: hot tub for the legs, barbecue on the patio, and the full stage replay in the bar with everyone talking over it.

Saturday 3 July 2027. Stage 2 runs from Keswick to Liverpool, with around 80 miles of the route in Lancashire: Lancaster, the Côte de Jubilee Tower, the edge of the Forest of Bowland and Chorley, before the finish on The Strand in Liverpool.
The roadside is free everywhere along the route; arrive early on the climbs for the best spots. The Liverpool finish has free viewing along the barriers plus big screens; any ticketed hospitality will be announced nearer the time.
Merseyrail runs directly from Ainsdale station (a 20 minute walk from the house, or a quick bus, taxi or car journey) into Liverpool Central in about 40 minutes. Race-day roads in the city will be closed or very slow, so the train wins.
Absolutely: there is gated storage at the house, a boot room for kit, and National Cycle Route 62 passes the entrance. The flat coast towards Formby makes a lovely recovery ride; the Bowland climbs are there for the ambitious.
Stage 1 runs Edinburgh to Carlisle on Friday 2 July and Stage 3 runs Welshpool to Cardiff on Sunday 4 July, so the whole weekend has racing to watch around your own riding.
